Thaikhun Review

The other day, we mentioned that Spinningfields is fast becoming a great area for foodies in our great city.  Most notably, there’s been a plethora of new restaurant openings in the area over the last twelve months, and many of them are already making a mark.  This week, we went to Thai restaurant, Thaikhun.

I got a taste for Thai food when I was holidaying over there in 2014 (and even did a cookery course in Chiang Mai, in the north of the country), so I like to think I know my Thai food!

Pronounced ‘Tycoon’, Thaikhun is arguably the best Thai restaurant in Manchester, and, having been a regular customer since it opened, it is definitely one of my favourite places to eat in Manchester.

From the rickshaw out front, to the slightly chaotic interior within, and from the Thai crackers to the Tom Yum, this place oozes authenticity – if only there was a stifling heat, it would genuinely feel like you could be somewhere in Asia.

Closing my eyes when eating my starter Chicken Satay takes me back to one of the finer restaurants just off Khao San road in Bangkok!

And, staying authentic, I absolutely couldn’t resist the Pinto Siam – which gives you three superb tasting meals to share between two of you, at brilliant value.  The Massaman curry, in particular, is best described as delicious or delightful – if you try it, you will not be disappointed!

Not yet on CityCard – but we will certainly be trying to meet with them in the coming weeks – ThaiKhun is highly recommended and scored an impressive 8.5/10.
