It’s a moment that I’ve been waiting for excitedly for last couple of months: this weekend, I am finally going to the Manchester Christmas Markets!
Already open for over a week, the BIGGEST Christmas markets in Europe are back! To me, that means gorging myself on as much mulled wine or German beer as I can muster, delicious flame-grilled German sausages, fresh sugary Dutch pancakes or Nutella-smothered French crepes, and mmmmm, chocolate coated fruit.
On top of that, there’s all the usual stalls to wander around, selling everything from garlic crushers to wooden gnomes, and sausages to biscuits, to plants and trees, and practically everything else that’s in-between. I seldom buy anything, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to take it all in.
But above all else, it’s the Christmas spirit, and the genuine feeling of generosity and goodwill, and happiness and everyone being out for a good time which makes me go back there year on year, or week on week. That’s what makes bustling past thousands of people, and drinking standing up all the more worthwhile - there is no better time of year, and no better place to be, than in Manchester at Christmas-time.
Manchester christmas markets are in town until Tuesday 20th December. Enjoy!
