Are you ready for Christmas yet? Well, get ready to party like it’s December: tomorrow (Saturday 14th November 2015) sees the opening of Manchester’s amazing German Christmas markets!
The biggest Christmas market in the UK – and indeed, in Europe - last year saw over 9 million people taking to the streets to buy German sausages, drink hot mulled wine, or buy from an incredible selection of Christmas goodies.
And this year, the market is set to be bigger and better than ever – with the introduction of additional stalls in most areas, the re-opening of the corn exchange market area, and a whole new double-decker bar in exchange square, complete with a temporary smoking chimney to celebrate our city’s great industrial past (and, no doubt, to look super Christmassy!).
Last year, Manchester was named as one of the top three places to visit near Christmas-time because of the exceptional markets, and it’s hoped that the further growth (and the expansion of the markets to include e.g. French and Italian cuisines) will push it even higher up the list.
We already can’t wait to get back to the vibrant party atmosphere that the markets bring, but for regulars, there’s even more good news – a recent Manchester Evening News article revealed that most vendors (and I was paying particular interest to the sausage, pancake and beer ones) have agreed to freeze their prices – which means that they’ll be at exactly the same prices as they were last year :)
