The summer is here, and Manchester is truly buzzing again - over the last few months the city centre has become choc-full of new places to eat, drink and be merry, and, with the newly opened £5m Home theatre, and the Manchester International Festival on its way, it’s clear that there’s never been a better time to head into the city centre – or, better yet, to hit a bar or restaurant straight after work and enjoy the long evenings with your friends and colleagues.
This week the weather forecasters are even predicting a heatwave for the whole of the UK – with temperatures hitting as high as 32 degrees here - which gives even more excuse for dusting off your summer wardrobe and getting out there.
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll start to review some of the best venues in Manchester, but for this first piece, it felt right to give a bit of an overview of the places to go around Manchester this summer - we start at the South of the City centre with Castlefield and Deansgate Locks:
If you’re after a beer in the sunshine, then sitting on Castlefield Wharf next to the canal could well be the place for you. There’s a range of pubs and bars which spill out from the city centre and provide genuinely delightful places to sit, eat, meet and drink. A couple of them even have outdoor barbecues when the weather allows!
Still a favourite with all the students (who come for the cheap drinks deals during the week, and the fact that it has loud music!), there’s a number of trendy bars and a comedy club along the ‘strip’ – all offering their own particular style and chic, and often accompanied by exquisite (and very tasty) house cocktails! The party continues well into the night!
